Radial Keratotomy (RK)

Not long ago, eye care practitioners corrected nearsightedness with a surgery known as Radial Keratotomy. Over the years, however, it became apparent to the eye care community that the procedure resulted in far too many complications and negative side effects. Today, Radial Keratotomy is essentially deemed a perilous surgery and is seldom performed.

Radial Keratotomy, though once considered safe, was extremely invasive. The operation required the patient to undergo anesthesia and the surgeon would spend about 20 minutes operating on each eye. During the surgery, a scalpel was used to flatten the cornea. Afterwards, both the doctor and patient would celebrate the restored vision.

Unfortunately, the “restored vision“ was only temporary for many patients and thousands of others suffered more after Radial Keratotomy than they did before it.

Over the years, Dr. Irwin Azman has treated numerous patients with post-Radial Keratotomy complications. The most common symptoms among these patients include irregular astigmatisms, loss of vision and double vision. Global Complex Eye Care has a variety of treatment methods that address each of these conditions.

If you are one of the millions of people who underwent unsuccessful Radial Keratotomy– know that you are not alone. Nearly half a million LASIK surgeries have been performed since the turn of the century in order to reverse the damage caused by Radial Keratotomy.

While LASIK surgery maybe an option for treating Radial Keratotomy failures, Dr. Azman and his team of optometrists and ophthalmologists offer many other treatments for his patients. Eyeglasses, contact lenses (including gas-permeable scleral lenses), intacs and cross-corneal linking are all viable methods to successfully rectify the visual damage caused by Radial Keratotomy.

At Global Complex Eye Care, we understand that patients who have already endured a failed Radial Keratotomy RK experience are less than excited to meet with a new doctor.

But let us promise you that working with us will be a whole new experience that you will not regret. Dr. Azman and his staff have years of experience specifically treating Radial Keratotomy complications. We treat our new patients as if we have known them for years and can guarantee success with your new eye care treatment.
